Puccini Festival 2027: dates and tickets

Every summer, on Lake Massaciuccoli, Torre del Lago fills with audiences who come to hear Puccini outdoors. The 73rd Puccini Festival runs from 9 July to 29 August 2027 at the open-air Gran Teatro Giacomo Puccini in Torre del Lago Puccini (Viareggio). Here are the official opera dates, sectors and prices published by the box office, how to buy tickets and how to plan the evening — without inventing casts or unconfirmed details.
What it is and where it happens
The Festival began in 1930, when a Puccini opera was first heard outdoors by the lake. Today it is organised by the Fondazione Festival Pucciniano in the Gran Teatro opened in 2008, facing Lake Massaciuccoli. Expect a classic Versilia summer evening: sunset on the water, mosquitoes, humid air and a performance that starts after dark. Arrive early if you can — visit the Villa Museo Puccini by day and stay for the show.

How and where to buy
The Festival box office is on Via delle Torbiere, a few steps from the theatre’s second entrance, Torre del Lago Puccini. Phone: +39 0584 359322. Email: ticketoffice@puccinifestival.it.
Public opening hours (as on the official site when we checked): Monday–Friday 9.00–12.30 and 15.00–18.00; closed Saturday and Sunday. From 1 October the afternoon slot becomes 14.00–17.00 (still Mon–Fri). Online sales and national circuits run 24/7. You can also buy by email (bank transfer or card) or by phone with Visa/Mastercard, following the box office instructions.
Accessibility: the Gran Teatro is accessible for people with disabilities, but dedicated seats are assigned only through the box office (in person, phone or email). They cannot be booked online or at authorised sales points.
Weather rule and theatre etiquette
An outdoor performance is never cancelled before the scheduled start. The Foundation may delay the start by up to 90 minutes and refunds only if the show is cancelled before it begins (present the ticket by the tenth day of the following month). If the performance is stopped after it has started, there is no refund. There is no cloakroom; photography and recording are forbidden; phones must be switched off; glass bottles and animals are not allowed. Programme books and cushions can be bought at the theatre on performance nights.
Getting there and where to stay
Torre del Lago is a district of Viareggio, a short drive or bike ride from the coast. In summer, arrive early: car parks around the theatre fill up. If you stay overnight, look in Torre del Lago Puccini or Viareggio (the Passeggiata and Darsena work well if you want beach and opera in the same weekend). Compare areas in our where to stay in Versilia guide. Pair the show with a lake day or a Forte–Pietrasanta–Torre del Lago trip. For other big city events see events in Viareggio through the year; off-season, Viareggio in winter.
Practical tips for the evening
- Bring a light jumper or jacket: by the lake after 9 pm it cools even in July.
- Mosquito spray helps (the water is close).
- Dress for the occasion: not a nightclub, but black tie is unnecessary.
- Leave a margin: latecomers wait until the interval.
- Check weather and official notices on the day — the rain rule above applies.
