Versilia by bike: the cycle path from Viareggio to Forte dei Marmi

Flat land, the sea on one side and mountains on the other: Versilia looks designed for bicycles.
The seafront cycle path
The cycle path links Viareggio and Cinquale via Lido di Camaiore, Marina di Pietrasanta and Forte dei Marmi: about 17–18 km, nearly all flat and paved. Some stretches are protected, others shared with pedestrians or crossed by beach-club entrances.
Eighteen flat kilometres along the sea: you only really understand Versilia from a bike.
Towards Torre del Lago
South of Viareggio you can ride to Torre del Lago along Viale dei Tigli through the pine forest, about 8–9 km to the Puccini Festival theatre. The surface is mixed, with gravel or sandy stretches: a sturdy city bike or mountain bike is best.
